Raw Material Specification

ASTM A182 F5 is an alloy steel formulated for primary forming into wrought products. Cited properties are appropriate for the annealed condition. F5 is the ASTM designation for this material. K41545 is the UNS number.

It has a fairly high electrical conductivity among wrought alloy steels in the same category. In addition, it has a moderately high base cost and a moderately high embodied energy.

The graph bars on the material properties cards below compare ASTM A182 grade F5 to: wrought alloy steels in the same category (top), all iron alloys (middle), and the entire database (bottom). A full bar means this is the highest value in the relevant set. A half-full bar means it's 50% of the highest, and so on.

F5 (12CrMo19-5), IS AN ALLOY STEEL WITH CHROME THAT HAS ELEVATED MECHANICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND IT IS SUITABLE FOR THE FABRICATION OF PARTS OF INSTALLATIONS THAT REQUIRE AN EXCELLENT RESISTANCE TO EMBRITTLEMENT UNDER PRESSURE AND AT ELEVATED TEMPERATURE (UP TO 600°C).

ASTM A1822 F9 is a high alloy boiler steel for operation at elevated temperatures supplied in the form of pipes, flanges, bars and forgings with a chromium content of 9% and 1% of Molybdenum. The material shows a martensitic structure after tempering and ferritic structure in the annealed state, it is characterized by high resistance to creep/oxidation and cracks and low thermal expansion. Steel designed for operation at temperatures of 550-650C for power and petrochemical industry for pipelines, secondary and outlet steam superheaters, steam and outlet collectors, turbine parts, flanges, connectors, and heat exchangers. Grade close to 1.4903 / F91 / P91 without added Niobium and Vanadium.

ASTM A182 F11 steel is the standard specification for forged or rolled alloy and stainless-steel pipe flanges, as well as forged fittings and all types of parts and valves for high-temperature service. This standard applies to forged low-alloy steel and stainless-steel pipe parts that are used in pressure systems. It also includes several grades of low-carbon alloy steel and ferritic, martensitic, austenitic, and ferritic-austenitic stainless steels. Therefore, it needs to be selected according to the use and design requirements.
Basic Information on the F11 Steel
Although the F11 steel isn't used as much as the F22 in the ASTM A182 category, this is still a popular type of steel used in numerous applications. The units are expressed in inch-pounds and SI units, and there are different types of the manufacturing process, including:
  • Low-alloy ferritic steels should be smelted in open hearth furnaces, electric furnaces, or through the basis-oxygen process.
  •  Stainless steel should be smelted via electric furnace or vacuum furnace.
Main Point of the Manufacture of the F11 Steel
Material for the steel needs to be forged as close as possible to the actual specified shape and size; when needing tees, U-bends, elbows, connecting tees, and any flange, these should not be processed directly from bars. The right alloy steel manufacture of these parts will make sure each part is made to the right specification so that you won't have to be concerned about getting something sub-standard.

ASTM A182 F22 Chrome-manganese, perlitic creep resistant structural steel for high temperature applications up to 580 ºC produced in the form of sheets, forgings, forged bars, hot-rolled tubes, and fittings for the power industry.
It is used, inter alia, for parts of steam boilers, turbine parts, superheat tubes, line pipes and boiler tubes, outlet chambers' parts, coils and superheater chambers, superheated steam pipes, steam coolers, boiler drums, nozzles, caps, screws, stressed parts in the chemical industry, pressure vessels in energy installation.
Compared to other boiler steels, F22,10CrMo9-10, 1.7380 steel is characterized by M23C6 carbide emissions, and hydrogen degradation resistance in medium pressure equipment and devices up to 500 ºC. In the 10H2M grade the products are generally used in a heat-treated or normalized state.
